Rowing is a full body strength-endurance sport

Have you ever tried rowing a boat? Well, you should, as rowing is a full body strength-endurance sport, which has an aerobic and anaerobic component. According to Annals of Rehabilitation Medicine, dynamic balance control is said to be disruptive under visual deprivation conditions, and anatomic deformation leads to asymmetric muscle strength. So, rowing exercise that needs well-balanced symmetric movement might help those who are visually impaired, especially people with scoliosis.

Rowing is helpful to women breast cancer survivors too

Rowing is a great exercise for all, and women breast cancer survivors have also found it to be an activity that improves the sequelae of the disease. It helps in reducing pain, improving muscle activation, increasing the range of movement in the upper limbs and increasing strength and muscle function. Among outdoor activities, rowing is considered to be one of the most complete water sports. It involves the work of the musculature of the upper and lower limbs and almost all the body’s musculature, as per the International Journal of Environmental Research And Public Health.

It is a sport in which symmetrical movements are performed that don’t need forced position and that combine the work of aerobic endurance and strength. It is believed that this type of activity improves the quality of life of cancer patients, including psychological, social, physical and emotional aspects. It favours their rehabilitation, self-esteem, and helps in normalising their daily life.

The practice of rowing has psychosocial benefits for cancer survivors, as it is a team sport. It promotes the development of social relationships, and they find the support they need in other women who have gone through or are facing the same situation.
